Hello, this is Kakao Mail.
To make our service even safer, we will be strengthening IMAP/POP3 login security as of Mon, Oct. 7, 2024.
When using your Kakao account to log in to different email programs or when syncing Kakao Mail externally via third-party email service providers (e.g., Gmail, Nate, Naver), you will be required to use 2-step verification according to our new strengthened login security policy.
If you enable IMAP/POP3 without setting up 2-step verification, your settings may not be correctly applied or changed.

Users are required to use 2-step verification and log in by creating/using an app password.
* 2-step verification (also known as 2FA) is a dual authentication security method that requires a second form of authentication that has been created in advance to safely log in after entering your Kakao account information.
How to use 2-step verification >
* You can use IMAP/POP3 with Kakao Mail after setting up 2-step verification and creating an app password.
How to set an app password:
- KakaoTalk > More > Settings (⚙️ top-right) > Kakao Account > 2-Step Verification > Confirm Password
- Kakao website (https://accounts.kakao.com) > Account Security > 2-Step Verification > Confirm Password
When you enable IMAP/POP3 and log in to other email programs (e.g., Apple Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird), please enter the app password you created and not your Kakao account password.
* Help on 2-step verification >
Before using your Kakao account to log in to other email programs or before syncing Kakao Mail externally via third-party email service providers, please confirm whether you have set up 2-step verification and correctly enter the app password that you created.
We will continue to do our best to provide even better services.
Thank you.
